New Year's Day 2025

January 01, 2025

After getting drawn into all sorts of other directions and neglecting this page for the past 3 years, I made a resolution to neglect it no more.

Part of its content will be drawn from my many decades' worth of experience in the sewing arts, much of which I used, and/or learned through trial and error, while running a successful alterations and custom sewing business. Other parts will be news from my online shops, and anything related to that which others might find interesting or helpful in some way. And some of it will be my thoughts on this life, its ups and downs, what it has taught me, and is still teaching me every day.

For today, with the aid of a small glass of bubbly and an eclectic mix of snacks, I will reflect on the past year which, due it being a whopper of a year, will need a lot of reflecting. The world is filled with turmoil and drama, and it seems increasingly difficult to keep one's footing in these turbulent seas of change.

As for myself, I will persevere with being an artist and a crafter, drawing comfort and inspiration from my huge stash of fabric of all kinds and enough supplies to last a good long while.

I will think up new projects that might end up in this online shop, and the ones that don't will make great gifts during the coming year.

Another inspiration will be my garden. Though small, it is a nurturing oasis in this big city; right now it is sleeping outside my bedroom window, awaiting the new season to come.

The afternoons are already staying light much longer, and by the end of January the first garlic chives will be coming up; so, for me, spring is literally just around the corner. I was hesitant about planting a garden this year, but only one look at current produce prices convinced me to give it another go; lettuce, peppers and tomatoes, here we come!

Stashed away in a small box are some tomato and pepper seeds, saved from past harvests, which I'll be starting indoors in a few weeks. Yes, I am looking forward to all of that.

I will be busy; busy is a good state of being when there are too many outside pressures crowding our minds. It helps us stay focused on the things that matter to us, which, during hard times, is the way it should be.

So, going forward, I am sending fond wishes for a good 2025 to all who read this, and may the new road be an easy one for all of us.
